Riverside's History

Riverside Church resides in central Minnesota, just west of the metro areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Strategically located on the boundaries of Big Lake and Monticello, we also regularly serve the surrounding communities of Biker, Buffalo, Clear Lake, St. Michael, Albertville, and Elk River.

Riverside had its humble beginnings in 1931 when believers began home prayer meetings in the Monticello area. In subsequent months, the group decided to clean and restore an abandoned church building in Monticello, holding their first services in January of 1932. On June 24, 1941, Rev. J.A. Peterson, District Superintendent presided over a meeting officially incorporating the church into the Christian & Missionary Alliance (C&MA) denomination.  Our governance includes a Board of Elders you can meet
here.  Our current building was erected in 1973, with additions and remodeling to add more space being completed in 1998, 2003, and most recently as part of the Our Time campaign stretching from November of  2005-2008.  A significant remodeling project and upgrade to the lower level connections space and bathrooms was completed in 2013.

We place a high value on reaching people and helping them become fully devoted followers of Christ, and our mission is unapologetically outward focused both in our community and around the world.  Our primary local outreach is to the 80,000 people who live within a 10 mile radius of our existing campus.  We are praying in His time God would provide an opportunity for us to extend our local reach even further through the addition of a multisite venue. Our global outreach includes our partnerships in Burkina Faso with Envision (C&MA), Taiwan and Costa Rica, as well as other mission fields within the C&MA.
