Is This Us: "In This Family" Resources

We'd love to help you figure out some next steps in imparting faith to your loved one. In addition to the resources on this page, click on this PDF for some tips on how to practically put it all together.

  • "Catch" family members doing something good
  • Use shopping trips to reinforce Biblical values about money, spending and generosity
  • Watch a popular TV show to talk about Hollywood depictions of love, sex, and romance. Simply ask, “How might the situation have been different on many levels if this character was a wholehearted Christian?”
  • Plan a time to read something together that points you to Jesus.
  • Decide ahead of time how you will speak to and about family when you are upset with them. Tell this to your family so they can hold you accountable and you can share the value.
  • Be nice to telemarketers. Treat people like people.
  • Pull out old photos from when you did something to honor God – a wedding, serving experience or other time you stepped into a biblical value. Tell the story of how following (or not following) God’s plan has affected your life.
  • Married? Date your spouse. Irregular is better than nothing. Regular is better than irregular.
  • Dump entertainment that goes too far. Walk out of movies instead of feeling you can’t. Research content ahead of time (pluggedin.com).
  • Live in humility and simplicity - say no to things you don’t need.
  • Humble and humorously talk about your mistakes together, along with what you’re learning.
  • Thank God in your prayers – don’t just ask Him for stuff.
  • Don’t turn God and church into recreation and recreation into “God and church.”
